The
Gilgit-Baltistan cabinet has approved affiliation of schools and collages with
the Federal Board Of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Islamabad
The cabinet also approved Food Bill, 2018, Under which a food authority would
be set up in GB. The meeting was held here with Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman
in the chair. The cabinet approved hydropower policy and imposition of fedral
government electricity laws in the region.
The Chief
Minister has constituted a committee headed by law minister Aurangzeg Khan to
prepare recommendations in this regard within four weeks. The cabinet also
approved upgradation of Chorbat as a subdivision of Ghanche district, Miniarg
of Astore and Goharabaf of Diamer.
An official
source said the decision to affiliate GB schools and collages with the FBISE
was meant to provide better platform to students to assess their abilities. GB
schools and collages had been affiliated with Karakoram Board Of Education
since 2004. The cabinet also approved compensation policy for the affected
people of sectarian and religious violence Under the policy, those who got
killed in terrorist incidents would be provided Rs 800,000 while Rs 300,000
would be provided to the injured, Rs 500,000 in case of home damage and Rs
200,000 for vehicles damage. On the occasion, Chief Minister Rehman said his
government was doing away with Saturday as holiday in government departments.The
cabinet also approved endowment funds for health, education, GB disaster
management sectors.

Gilgit Baltistan Education Minister of Gilgit Baltistan Ibrahim Sanai has said
that the government would take strict action against responsible of those
schools of which results were not satisfactory, adding the government would
ensure retribution and rewards system in all schools.
The Minister
acknowledged that the government has received complaints from parents and
students about the Karakoram International University (KIU) board. He said the
regional government was planning to affiliate all the schools with Federal
Board Of Intermediate and Secondary Education, aimed at improving their
performance and providing quality education to young generation.
Ibrahim
Sanai alleged that the previous government, especially Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)
government, inflicted corruption and illegal teacher’s appoints on Education
Department. He said the Education Department was neglected and lacked of funds
by the previous governments, badly affecting its performance.
He claimed
that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) government has not only ensured
curbing of corruption and nepotism, but also teachers appointments on merit
basis. He said the government appointed as many as 1,500 teachers under the
National Testing Services (NTS), ensuring merit and transparency in the
appointments.
