SHIGAR
Shigar
is a lush green and fertile valley of Baltistan, some 30kms from Skardu Town.
This valley is the gateway to several famous routes for trekking and climbing
expenditions including K2. Shigar valley stretches about 170 kms from Skardu to
Askole.
The
historical Amborik Mosque, Khanqah and Fort are the prime attractions of the
valley. The ruins of the Fort of Khari Dongs and Skeur Lung Gompa of the
demolished Buddhist complex as well as tomb of Mir Yahya are the historical
sites located in this valley.
The
hot water Sulphur springs of Chhutron and Bislil also attract the people to
cure the skin diseases and shortica.
Shigar
is also known for treasures of precious gems and stones particularly Zahar
Mohra which is considered to be an antidote and is also used for making
beautiful tea-sets and artificials.
KHARMANG
This
valley was called Kartakhsha in history but was named Kharmang 4-5 centuries
ago after many defence forts were constructed here.
Kharmang
is a picturesque valley along the River Indus and leads to the old trade route
to Kargil and onward to Kashmir. Mehdiabad, Tolti, Pari, Kharmang Khas and
Olding are important villages on this way restricted for foreigner near line of
control. The palaces of the lacal Rajas in Kharmang are of historical
importance. The waterfalls of Manthoka and Khamus are also worth seeing.
KHAPLU
Khaplu
is the headquarters of Ghanche District situated about 102 kms away from
Skardu, mostly along the Shayok River. Mashabrum is another important sub
valley of Ghanche having trekking site, which is rarely missed by a person who
is on a visit to this area.
Ghondoghoro
La, Hushe, Thalay La and Karfo Braqbo are another trekking spots of Ghanche
District. The Hushay valley has the charm of Trophy Hunting as it is the home
to some of the rare species of wild animals like Markhor and Ibex.
Khaplu
Palace, Chaqchan Mosque, Tomb of Mir Muhammad, Mir Arif Thagas and Mir Mukhtar
Keris are places with unique symbolic culture depicting the artistic and
aesthetic sense of previous generations and worth visiting sites.
The
routes of the Siachan Glacier and Hushay valley start from Khaplu on one side,
while Ghondo Ghoro Pass joins the area with Concordia and onwards to Shigar
valley on the other.
Kharfaq
Lake and Bara Pond are famous for Trout Fishing with very beautiful lacation
and camping sites in the surroundings. Other tourists spots include Hanjur,
Surmo Broq and Sailing fishing Resort etc.
