Complete
rejecting the Gilgit Baltistan Order 2018 and Self-Governance Order 2009, the
political parties, Awami Action Committee (ACC) and other stakeholders demanded
of the federal government to provide constitutional and political rights to the
Gilgit Baltistan people under the Act of Paliament.
The demand
was made by office-bearers of ACC, political parties, High Court Bar
Association, Anjuman Tajaran and other at a news conference at Gilgit Press
Club.
They said: “We
completely reject Gilgit Baltistan Orders 2018 and other executive orders and
demand political, consititutional and fundamental rights for the people of
Gilgit Baltistan in lights of the Supreme Court of Pakistan 1999 judgment.”
They said
that they have already approached the Supreme Court, adding they appeal to SC
to give decision in favor of the people. They demanded that Gilgit Baltistan
should be given an empowered constitutional setup under the Act of Parliament
instead of giving them different executive orders, which should be disbanded.
Talking to
news papers, ACC chairman Maulana Sultan Raees said that the committee, which
is comprised of leaders of almost all political and religious parties, would
continue its opposition of the Gilgit Baltistan Order 2018. He added that if
the SC didn’t demolished the Order 2018, the committee would stage protest
demonstrations across Gilgit Baltistan.
He said that
in the past, the government and corrupt rulers used to divide people into
groups on basis of religion and politics in order to divert their attention
from corruption and bad governance. He said that days were gone when the people
shift responsibility to one another’s shoulder and they were now united at one
platform against the government as well as for their fundamental rights.
The rulers
deliberately created sectarian violence and indulged the people in a civil war
to get their personal motive fulfilled. He regretted that hundreds of innocent
people were killed in sectarian violence provoked by corrupt rulers and
governments in the past.
Maulana
Raees further said that in the past, the residents of Baltistan region and
Diamer division exchanged bodies while now they exchanged gifts and flowers,
saying the flawed and killer policies of the rulers have united the people. He
gave credit for promotion of religious harmony and peace to ulema and people,
saying the government had never taken serious steps for promoting peace.
He said the
present government was also following footprints of previous failed governments
by not listening to demands of the people. He said by imposing cruel taxes, the
government tried to multiply problems of the people rather than resoving them.
